Briones Vest Knit Kit

Briones Vest Knit Kit

Knit Kit contents:

  • Pattern
  • Four skeins of Bo-Rage yarns, 4 oz / 200 yards per skein
  • Mill-spun 2-ply yarn; 100% local wool and alpaca blend
  • 1 skein light camel colored and 3 skeins darker taupe; natural colors

Skill level: Easy; ideal for a first intarsia project

Size: Medium. It can easily be made larger by adding several stitches on the front panel sides and back panel sides and lengthening the vest.

General note: This vest is a perfect first intarsia project. The rectangles are simple and only two colors are used at the same time. In the back for the large rectangle, three balls of yarn are used, (only two colors, but in three different places). For the smaller squares and stripes, the main color is stranded in order to keep the number of yarn balls to a minimum. Knit from the bottom to the top.

Briones are a historic family in Bolinas. They settled the lands around Dogtown and Las Baulinas, as it was called in those days. This vest was created because in my knit basket were all these natural colored skeins. They looked so enticing together, I decided to create something with these muted rustic colors that reflect the lands around Dogtown and Bolinas. The vest is reminiscent of vests men wore around the time of Dogtown’s settlement.
